Overview

Market Street Music is excited to present "New Era Romantics" by its flagship ensemble, Mastersingers of Wilmington, featuring the astounding Requiem of Maurice Duruflé!

"New Era Romantics" explores the evolution of choral music in the first half of the 20th century. We begin in 1899 with Vierne’s Messe solennelle, a composition clearly from the Romantic era, and explore how, in the next 48 years, various composers explore new colorful and often modal harmonies, as well as newly-constructed scales, and musical sensibilities while still looking back to the 19th century for inspiration.

A reception at DE.CO will follow the concert. Come enjoy a drink on us and a chance to meet the artists!

With:
David Schelat, conductor
Thomas Gaynor, organ
Joanna Gates, mezzo-soprano
