James Reese and Brandon Acker share a program of intimate airs de cour. These "songs of the heart" were hugely popular in the French court around the turn of the 17th century. They are often devastatingly beautiful: simple, strophic songs for voice and lute which carry love and heartbreak. The songs often pine for a beloved from a distance - separated by obligation or society. When finally the singer is united with the beloved, the resulting melodies are soaringly gorgeous.
