Joan Sparks, flute & Anne Sullivan, harp
This program celebrates America’s rich and varied musical heritage through works that reflect both its history and its spirit of creativity. From the stately *Sonata in C Major* by General John Reid—a British general who actually fought against the Americans in the Revolution—to the jazz-infused lyricism of Nuncio Mondello’s *Poem*, the program spans centuries of musical expression. Contemporary voices are equally present: Louis Anthony deLise’s *Petite Fall Fanfare* offers a bright, modern flourish, while Linthicum-Blackhorse’s *Mnicakmun: Sounds of Water* honors Native American traditions and connection to the natural world. Together, these works highlight the diverse cultural threads that have shaped America’s musical landscape.
