Thursday, March 26, 12:30-1:00 pm
In this program, Willow Tree applies its dedication to the love and lore of Celtic music to the revolutionary spirit that animated America’s declaration of independence 250 years ago. We celebrate that spirit through a variety of songs touching on historical events ranging from Mary Queen of Scots’ escape from captivity in 1568 to Foggy Dew, a tragic yet heroic recounting of the Irish Easter Uprising of 1916. Songs contemporary with our own revolution include a fiddle tune celebrating the publication of the Declaration of the Rights of Man in 1789, and The Rising of the Moon, which memorialized the unsuccessful Irish Rebellion of 1798.
