The Golden Age and Beyond: Music from the Low Countries
The area that is now Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands enjoyed an era of great prosperity in the 16th and early 17th centuries. Even after the pinnacle of that Golden Age, the wealthy music-loving bourgeoisie of the Low Countries, the religious tolerance of the northern provinces, and the strong Catholic tradition in the south encouraged a thriving environment for both native and foreign musicians. This program features music by Dutch, Flemish and foreign composers of the early 17th through mid-18th centuries, including works by Van Eyck, Schenck, de Fesch, and LeClair.
